Relocating to East Anglia – Things to consider
‘Inward’ relocation
People tend to associate the term ‘relocation’ with families moving (back) to the UK from far flung places across the world. But ‘inward’ relocation is more common than you would think. We regularly get enquiries from families or individuals looking for assistance to move from one side of the country to the other.
East Anglia is a popular area to relocate to due to its easy transport links to London, good education opportunities and its fast-growing local high tech industry and business sector. Popular cities and towns to relocate to for these reasons are, to name a few; Cambridge, Peterborough and Bury St Edmunds.
What towns and cities in East Anglia could I relocate to?
Cambridge is one of the fastest growing cities in the UK due to its fast transport links to London (48 minutes on the fast train), high standard of education, the private schools and the expansion of its science and pharmaceutical industries such as the move of AstraZeneca from Manchester, plus Apple, Microsoft and Amazon who have all recently take new offices in the City
Peterborough has only started expanding in the past few years with the creation of several good new property developments to the west and south of the City. The fast transport links to the north and south together with its easy access to Cambridge in particular, make it a popular choice. Both Amazon and British Sugar are welcome providers of jobs in the area.
I have written about Bury St Edmunds before, which has gone from a slightly sleepy historical market town to a thriving, popular location to live. There are several good private schools locally, such as Culford, and of course the British Sugar factory and the Greene King brewery, founded in 1799 and now the country’s leading pub retailer and brewer with over 3,000 outlets.
Smaller, but none the less popular towns are Stowmarket and Sudbury, mainly due to their good rail links and Siemens healthcare and software industries.
Property and lifestyle
At Garrington, we regularly assist clients who are relocating throughout the UK, and are always keen to impress on them that the lifestyle surrounding a rental, or purchase for that matter, is equally important to the property.
After all, it doesn’t make sense renting a beautiful home in the middle of nowhere, if the brief is to live close to transport links and a particular private school within five minutes of a town centre. We aim to make their relocation as smooth and relaxed as possible and will advise our clients on all factors involved in relocating, including finding their new home, to suggestions on education options, transport and the local amenities.
